This installation discusses the theme of a dystopian future, the fictitious possibility of cultivation and the subsequent establishment of communication with crops. In this dystopian future, the soil has become absolutely dead due to the effects of modern agriculture, and these conditions force potatoes to be kept in an artificial environment. In this sealed incubator, from potatoes it becomes more of a religious altar or reliquary. In this fiction, people try to establish a dialogue with the potatoes themselves, thanks to which humanity flourished. Through dialogue mediated by technology, people try to reflect on their colonial past and the slowly ending epoch of the Anthropocene. The installation consists of the main object (incubator) in the center of which potatoes are located. Potatoes are nourished by a system where chemistry is replaced by a composter. The potatoes are connected to a modular synthesizer that captures their bio data and converts it into sound. The subtitles on the video are a fictitious translation of sound produced by potatoes. The installation is based on the performance: Secret Life of Plants, by Richard Lowenberg
Richard Lowenberg: ” Can we use technology to create new relationships between us and the planet at the same scale we are destroying it? “ the same scale we are destroying it? “
